Counselling is a talking therapy with a trained professional. It provides a non-judgmental, safe and confidential space for you to explore many aspects of your life and to make sense of the thoughts and feelings you are struggling with. It can sometimes be difficult to express these feelings to friends or family members therefore, talking to a therapist who is impartial can help you work through these issues, thoughts and emotions to develop a better understanding of yourself.
Our counselling services can take on many different forms depending on your needs and what may be suitable. It takes place in regular planned sessions, usually weekly however this can be discussed with your therapist and they will help you make a plan which you feel will be best for you and your therapy.
Your first session should begin with an introduction from your counsellor. They will go through any paperwork such as counselling agreement and assessment forms and you can agree on how often and when your sessions will take place.
During your sessions your counsellor may look at some coping strategies to help you manage your problems as they arise or they may have a more general discussion about how you are feeling. What you talk about with your therapist is entirely up to you. Your therapist will be impartial and without any judgement, they won't offer advice but they will listen to you and be there with you to explore your feelings on this journey.
After your session, some people can feel tired, drained or just relieved about sharing the issues. These are all common feelings to have, therapy is a process and working through challenges can be difficult at times however it can also feel empowering.
